Sculpture commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Association of Friends of Sobieszewo Island

The sculpture was created during the first Island in Granite Sculpture Symposium, initiated and curated by Danka Jarzyńska – a resident of the Island.

Carved from a simple fieldstone – ordinary, one might say. Yet in nature, does anything truly deserve that name? Within stone lies the story of millions of years, the whisper of wind and wave, the quiet patience of the earth. So too, the Island – common only in appearance – conceals a depth of life and time.

The sculptor’s cut unveiled two converging lines of pale flint, formed by ages past. The chisel traced their kinship to a pathway, etching upon the new surface the faint marks of birds’ claws – a fleeting touch of life captured in enduring matter.

Standing at the threshold of the Bird Paradise, the sculpture speaks as a gentle manifesto. It does not shout, but shines with clarity: remember this place – its fragility, its grace, and how easily it might be lost. It does not accuse, but invites reflection on our shared responsibility.

Trace is dedicated to all who strive to keep the Island from becoming a mere product, who choose care over consumption, and memory over neglect.
